Tour Overview

This 3 day gorilla trekking tour is designed as a smooth extension for travellers already in Tanzania. After a Kilimanjaro climb, Serengeti safari or Zanzibar stay, you can fly to Kigali and continue into Rwanda's highlands for one of the most moving wildlife encounters on earth.
Mountain gorilla trekking is highly regulated, deeply personal and unlike a vehicle safari. You join a small group, receive a ranger briefing, hike into montane forest and, once your allocated gorilla family is located, spend the permitted time quietly observing their world: feeding, resting, grooming, playing and communicating with a gentleness that often surprises first-time visitors.
Because gorilla permits are limited and priced separately by the authorities, this tour is always confirmed around current permit availability, flight schedules and lodge category. LuiTours handles the moving pieces so the extension feels simple from the traveller's side.

Daily Itinerary
Arrive at Kigali International Airport, where the Rwanda driver-guide meets you. Depending on the flight time, explore Kigali and visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial before driving through Rwanda’s highlands toward Volcanoes National Park. Check in for dinner and an overnight close to the park headquarters.

After an early breakfast, transfer to Volcanoes National Park headquarters for registration and the ranger briefing. Join the guided forest trek assigned to your gorilla family; the walking time and terrain depend on the group’s location. When the gorillas are found, observe them quietly for the permitted period before returning from the forest. An optional cultural visit can be arranged after the trek when time and energy allow.

After breakfast, drive back to Kigali. If the departure schedule permits, stop for shopping or additional Kigali sightseeing before the airport transfer. Continue with the booked flight home or the return connection to Arusha, bringing the Rwanda extension to a close.

Destinations & Experience Style
Arusha or Kilimanjaro
Starting point in Tanzania, with flight routing to Kigali arranged around your itinerary.
Kigali
Clean, welcoming capital city with optional memorial and cultural visits.

Trekking character
Primate trekking is not a race. Trails can be steep, warm, muddy or slow, and the route changes with animal movement. The magic comes from patience: listening, watching and letting the forest reveal itself one careful step at a time.

Accommodation & Transportation

Accommodation: Night 1 is planned at Five Volcanoes Boutique Hotel. The source gives Virunga Inn Resort & Spa or a return to Five Volcanoes Boutique Hotel for night 2; the confirmed choice is written into the proposal.
Transportation: Flight routing from Tanzania to Kigali as quoted, private Kigali airport transfers, 4x4 road transfers to Volcanoes National Park and return transfer for departure.
Every quote clearly states the accommodation category, included meals, transport mode, permit assumptions and any schedule-sensitive items. This matters for primate tours because remote routes can change with flight operations, lake conditions and park availability.
Tailor-made comfort
Choose practical, comfort or premium accommodation where available. For remote parks, booking early is the best way to secure preferred rooms and smoother logistics.
Best Time to Visit
Gorilla trekking is possible year-round. June to September and December to February are the most popular drier periods. March to May and October to November are greener and quieter, with muddier trails but beautiful forest atmosphere.
| Season | Trail Conditions | Experience Notes |
|---|---|---|
| June - October | Drier and generally easier | Most popular trekking window; book early for permits and rooms. |
| December - February | Warm, often good trekking | Excellent for travellers combining safari, Zanzibar or Kilimanjaro. |
| March - May | Wet and more slippery | Lush forest, fewer visitors, more flexibility required. |
