Approximately 8:30am, after your guide/driver has briefed you on the do's and don'ts, without forgetting the expectations of this safari, you will depart for Tarangire National Park. This is also known as "The Paradise of Elephants". Whether you come here just for a day trip or plan an overnight stay, Tarangire has something for everyone. The park impresses with its famous concentration of wild animals, especially elephants, and is also one of the best destinations for bird watching in East Africa. The park has remarkable attractions with large groups of elephants, spectacular natural beauty of the savannah landscape and magnificent majestic baobabs. Over 550 different bird species have been counted in the park, several of which are endangered.

  • Accommodation: Farm of Dreams Lodge
  • Meals: All meals included
Guide's Tip: Tarangire is frequently underestimated by travellers focused on the Serengeti - and frequently rates as a personal favourite once they experience it.

Day3
Game Drive in Serengeti National Park.
~6 hrs to Serengeti First encounter with the plains Seronera Valley arrival World's most famous park

After another African wake up and an amazing bush breakfast, you will head to the Serengeti National Park for about 6 hours. This day is dedicated to an evening game drive as you drive to your accommodation of this day for check in.

Serengeti National Park covers 1.5 million hectares of savannah, the annual migration of two million wildebeest plus hundreds of thousands of gazelles and zebras - followed by their predators on their annual migration in search of pasture and water - is one of the most impressive natural spectacles in the world. The park's biodiversity is very high with at least four globally threatened or endangered species: black rhino, elephant, wild dog and cheetah.

  • Accommodation: Serengeti Heritage Tented Camp
  • Meals: All meals included
Guide's Tip: The drive from Tarangire through the NCA to the Serengeti is itself a wildlife experience - the Ngorongoro Conservation Area's highlands are home to Maasai cattle alongside.

Day5
Transfer and game drive to the Northern Serengeti
Drive to North Serengeti Mara River boundary zone Migration river crossing territory Tanzania meets Kenya

After breakfast, depart for the Northern Serengeti for a full day game drive to observe the great migration. The river crossings in Kogatende start in August when the big herd settles in the area. Between August and October, game viewing is at its best as river crossings are pretty much guaranteed every day. There is no distinct movement as the herds tend to cross the river back and forth to follow the rains and subsequent fresh grass.

  • Accommodation: Tanzania Bush Camps
  • Meals: All meals included
Guide's Tip: A herd may mass at the river bank for hours before a crossing begins - or cross within minutes of arrival.

Day6
Full day North Serengeti (Koga Tende).
Mara River full day Migration herds crossing Crocodile spectacle Most photographed wildlife scene on earth

After breakfast, embark on a full day game drive to observe the great migration in the Mara area. The number of resident wildlife is exceptionally high in the Wagakuria area. The main feature is the Mara River. There is of course no guarantee to observe the crossing; it is purely a matter of luck. But here at the Mara River there are great chances to see the herds crossing the Mara River to the north in one day and again to the south a few days later. A herd may be seen next to the river and decide to cross a few days later. This area is a stunning region of kopjes, forests, riverine vegetation and open plains, similar to the Massai Mara Game Reserve in Kenya. After an extensive game drive, return to your accommodation for dinner and overnight.

  • Accommodation: Tanzania Bush Camps
  • Meals: All meals included
Guide's Tip: The northern Serengeti is less visited than the central zone, and spending two full days here during August - October gives you a genuinely off-the-beaten-track experience.
Full day North Serengeti (Koga Tende).
Day7
Transfer to Ngorongoro Crater
North to South Serengeti transit Wildlife-rich transfer drive NCA Highland forests Crater rim arrival

This day is also dedicated to transfers, but as you will be driving from the North Serengeti to the South Serengeti, you can naturally expect many encounters with a variety of wildlife.

The Ngorongoro Conservation Area has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its great importance. The sanctuary is a paradise for wildlife as it is home to a variety of animals including wildebeest, zebra, rhino, buffalo, lion, elephant, leopard, cheetah, caracal, African wild dog, gazelle, wild cat and more than 500 species of birds. .

It includes the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater, the largest caldera in the world.

Best Time to Visit

All four parks offer excellent game viewing year-round. The 10-day itinerary's inclusion of the northern Serengeti makes the August - October window particularly significant - this is when the famous Mara River crossings reach their peak, with massive wildebeest herds crossing back and forth between Tanzania and Kenya in near-daily dramatic spectacles. The calving season (Jan - Mar) on the southern plains offers a different but equally extraordinary experience. Tarangire and Manyara peak in the dry season (June - October). The Ngorongoro Crater is exceptional every month of the year.

Frequently Asked Questions

The northern Serengeti around Kogatende and the Mara River is one of Africa's most dramatic wildlife environments, distinct from the central Seronera zone in several important ways. The landscape is more varied - kopjes, riverine forests, and the Mara River itself create a different visual character from the central plains. The Mara River crossings (August - October) are the headline attraction, but the area's high resident wildlife density - lion, cheetah, leopard, giraffe, elephant - makes it exceptional in any season. The remoteness is also a factor: fewer vehicles, more space, and a wilder feel than the more-visited central zone. The two-day northern stay on this itinerary is one of the features most frequently mentioned in post-safari guest feedback as a personal highlight.
No wildlife sighting on safari is ever guaranteed - this is precisely what makes safari different from a zoo or a theme park. The herds choose their own timing, and a massing at the bank can wait for hours before a crossing occurs, or a crossing can happen the moment you arrive. The LuiTours guide will position your vehicle based on current herd locations and crossing probability, and with two full days in the northern Serengeti (August - October), your probability of witnessing at least one significant crossing is very high. Outside peak crossing months, the northern Serengeti still offers spectacular game viewing - the Mara River zone is extraordinary in every season.
The arrival day is one of the most thoughtful features of this itinerary. International travellers arriving from Europe, North America, or Asia face significant time zone adjustment, altitude change, and travel fatigue. Beginning the safari immediately on arrival day - as many shorter itineraries do - means your first wildlife experiences happen when you're not at your best, and the briefing and mental preparation that make safari experiences truly meaningful get compressed or skipped. The Arusha day allows you to sleep, recover, receive a proper briefing from your guide, ask questions, organise equipment, and begin the next nine days fully prepared. Guests consistently describe it as one of the best design decisions in the itinerary.
Absolutely - and the combination of Tanzania northern circuit safari followed by Zanzibar is one of the finest travel experiences available in the world. After ten days of plains, craters, and savannah, the turquoise waters, coral reefs, and Stone Town culture of Zanzibar provide a perfect contrast. Flights from Arusha or Kilimanjaro to Zanzibar take approximately 25 minutes, and LuiTours can arrange accommodation, airport transfers, and any Zanzibar activities as part of your overall booking. We recommend a minimum of three to four nights in Zanzibar to do justice to both the beaches and Stone Town's remarkable cultural heritage.
The itinerary includes two nights in Arusha (Days 1 and 10 at Green Mountain Hotel), one night in the Tarangire area (Farm of Dreams Lodge), two nights in the central Serengeti (Serengeti Heritage Tented Camp), two nights in the northern Serengeti (Tanzania Bush Camps), one night in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area (Ngorongoro Safari Lodge), one night after the crater visit (Farm of Dreams Lodge), and one final night in Arusha (Green Mountain Lodge). All accommodation is full board (all meals included) from Day 1 through Day 9, with breakfast included on Day 10. Luxury upgrades at any accommodation point are available - please contact LuiTours at booking for pricing and availability, as premium lodges in the Serengeti and on the Ngorongoro crater rim book 3-6 months ahead during peak season.
LuiTours guides are certified professional wildlife guides with years of specific experience in all four parks on this itinerary, including the northern Serengeti's Kogatende area - a zone where guide knowledge and real-time intelligence are especially critical. What consistently distinguishes them in traveller feedback is the quality of interpretation: narrating animal behaviour as it unfolds, explaining the ecological relationships between the parks' different ecosystems, knowing individual animals and resident prides by sight, and finding sightings that other vehicles miss by knowing where and when to look across 10 days of accumulated park intelligence. Ten days with an expert LuiTours guide transforms the safari experience from wildlife observation into genuine ecological understanding.
