The Rufiji River Boat Safari - Nyerere's Defining Experience
The evening boat safari on the Rufiji River is unlike anything available on a land-based game drive. Floating silently past hippo pods at arm's length, watching crocodiles slide off sandbanks, and observing elephants drinking at the river's edge from water level creates a completely different dimension to the safari experience. No other southern Tanzania park offers this activity.

Best Time to Visit
Nyerere National Park offers rewarding game viewing year-round, but the dry season (June - October) is the peak period - wildlife concentrates around the Rufiji River and permanent water sources, making game drives and boat safaris especially productive. The green season (November - May) brings lush scenery and exceptional birding with hundreds of migratory species. The boat safari is enjoyable in all seasons, but the dry season produces the most dramatic hippo and crocodile concentrations.
